Fourthwalling: not so fine
Offensive subjects (elaborate): "Offensive" is a debatable term. Something like "cutting oneself" or "gun control" doesn't faze me. But saying that Terry Goodkind is a good writer will bring out the rage.

Killing this character: It was nice knowing you.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Is resistant to it, but the things you'll find on the inside...try if you want.
Warnings:
This is Doctor. Freaking. Doom. He's unpleasant as it is, even if you're on his good side. And should you get on his bad side....well, it doesn't really take much. Sometimes nothing at all. We're all just pawns on his chessboard of life. Grandoise insults pepper his every paragraph when he is addressing something, at all times. And it may be a little difficult to read, what with the big, hard to understand words he plucks from his memory (reading books of magickal lore will do that to you).
And if ends up actually "liking" someone, be prepared because that "love" is about as deadly and acidic as his hate.
